Accreditation
- FIDER: Foundation for Interior Design Education Research
FIDER sets standards for postsecondary interior design education, evaluates college and university interior design programs, and publishes a list of accredited programs that meet the standards. This accreditation certifies that a program will teach certain principles and provides a high-quality education. If you're serious about your interior design education, it's important to choose a school with a FIDER-accredited program.
Online Magazines and Resources
- Dezignaré
Dezignaré provides a number of interior design resources including news, lists of designers and organizations, a calendar of events, and a marketplace with reviews of interior design-related software. Prospective students should be sure to check out their education resources.
- Display and Design Ideas
Interesting online magazine that focuses on product news and design solutions for store planning and visual merchandising. It includes the latest news, reports and analysis, resources, events and buyer's guide
- Interiors and Designs
This magazine includes articles written by professional interior designers on such varied subjects as furnishings, art, kitchen/bath, glass/mirrors, window coverings, and antiques.
- InteriorDesign.net
InteriorDesign.net is the companion
web site to Interior Design Magazine, and addresses both commercial and residential concerns by including the latest news and product market issues, a buyers guide, and information on schools, associations, and design centers. Be sure to check out the suggested reading list.
Professional Associations
- ASID: American Association of Interior Designers
ASID is the largest organization of professional interior designers in the world. Their site offers information on interior design, continuing education, and design career information and design programs, as well as articles from ASID's ICON magazine.
- IIDA: International Interior Design Association
IIDA is an internationally recognized organization representing design educators and professional interior designers practicing in commercial, education & research, facility planning and design, government, health care, hospitality, residential, and retail design. Includes information on competitions and continuing education.
- IDC: Interior Designers of Canada
IDC is the national interior design association of Canada with member associations in eight provinces. Their site features lists of approved interior design programs, as well as a gallery of interior design, award-winning projects, and online portfolios.
- NCIDQ: National Council for Interior Designer Qualification
In order to become an officially licensed interior designer in most states and Canadian provinces, students need to pass an NCIDQ examination. This site provides information on those exams, including dates, deadlines, and application forms.
